Zaha Mohammad Hadid is a female architect. He was the first and first Muslim
woman to win the Pritzker Architectural Award in 2004. He was a female
architect who attracted the world's attention with a design that resembled
broken glass. She was also the first woman to receive the Royal Gold Medal
award by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Hadid was born on October 31, 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq. His father, Muhammad
al-Hajj Husayn Hadid, was a wealthy industrialist from Mosul, and one of the
founders of the National Democratic Party in Iraq. His mother, Wajiha
al-Sabunji, was an artist from Mosul.

Hadid entered boarding school in England and Switzerland. Hadid studied
mathematics at the American University before moving, in 1972, to London to
study at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. There, he found
inspiration in an unconventional form. Before computers made their designs
easier before they were installed on paper, Hadid's studio was known to use
photocopiers in creative ways to bend lines and create new shapes. While
studying abstract art and architecture at the Architectural Association in
London, Hadid met Rem Koolhaas, Elijah Zenghelis and Bernard Tschumi. He worked
for his former professors, Koolhaas and Zenghelis, in the Office for
Metropolitan Architecture, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, became partners in
1977. He then met Peter Rice, a technician who gave him support and help at the
time when his work faced difficulties.

Hadid broke a new foundation on modern architecture by using the surrounding
landscape to build inspiration. Straight lines and sharp corners of the Vitra
Fire Station in Germany are inspired by the vineyards and the nearest farmland.
While the London Aquatic Center roof forms waves. You can see the London
Aquatic Center and several other impressive works from Hadid at the Google
Earth interactive exhibition. Hadid founded his own London-based architecture
practice in 1980.

Hadid passed away on March 31, 2016, due to a heart attack at the Miami
hospital, where he was treated for bronchitis.
